Frequently Asked Questions
Is SIP safe in India?
SIP (Systematic Investment Plan) is a method of investing in mutual funds, which are market-linked instruments. The safety depends on the underlying fund category — equity funds have higher risk-return potential over long periods; debt funds have lower risk. SIPs are regulated by SEBI and administered by AMFI-registered mutual funds. Past returns are not indicative of future performance.
What is the current PPF interest rate?
The PPF (Public Provident Fund) interest rate is currently 7.10% p.a. (as notified by the Ministry of Finance, subject to quarterly government review). PPF interest is completely tax-free under Section 10(11) and deposits are eligible for deduction under Section 80C under the old tax regime.
What is LTCG tax on mutual fund SIP in India?
Long-Term Capital Gains (LTCG) on equity mutual funds held for more than 12 months are taxed at 12.5% (without indexation) for gains above ₹1.25 Lakh per financial year, as per the Finance Act 2024. STCG (Short-Term Capital Gains) on equity funds held ≤12 months is taxed at 20%.
